Claire Jacobs Awarded AES Grant to Study STXBP1

We are excited to announce that Claire Jacobs, M.D., Ph.D. has been awarded a grant from the American Epilepsy Society (AES) to study STXBP1. Dr. Jacobs has been awarded an Early Career Grant by AES. She will study the effects of changes in STXBP1 expression in developing human neural cells derived from induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs). The goal is to advance our understanding of the roles of STXBP1 protein in developing human neurons. Her work will also explore potential therapeutic strategies for individuals affected by STXBP1 encephalopathies, such as small molecules that can partially or fully restore normal STXBP1 protein levels.

Dr. Jacobs is an adult epilepsy specialist in the Department of Neurology at Massachusetts General Hospital. She received her medical degree from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, and her PhD in Chemistry from California Institute of Technology.
