The First STXBP1 Census!

Have you ever wondered how many people in the world have an STXBP1 diagnosis?
We know there are thousands of patients out there...and we want to find them!
STXBP1 Global Connect is a global parents network composed of many groups from around the world, focused on improving the lives of STXBP1 patients.
One of our first collaborations is a hugely important project for 2023: launching a census!
Why a census?
Knowing where patients and families are worldwide helps our foundations and collaborators support our patients and families, and plan for clinical care and studies. Importantly, as we move toward clinical trials for STXBP1 – which will potentially lead to treatments and, hopefully, a cure – we need to know how many STXBP1 patients have been diagnosed, and where they are located; so we can help them today and connect them with the therapies of tomorrow. Additionally, it is crucial to give confidence to our current and future industry partners that we have enough patients to justify their research investment.
A few exciting highlights from our inaugural census:
903 patients worldwide (March 31st, 2023 update)
42% in Europe, 35% North America, 16% Asia Pacific, 7% Rest of World
Age data is pretty consistent across the countries that we have it for. The largest two groups are 6 to 12 years old (36%), and 0 to 5 years old (34%). Also, it is notable that we have 99 adult STX’ers (18 and over)*.
Gender data is evenly split at 49% female, 51% male*
*Age and gender data available for 76% of individuals
What can you do?
We know there are patients who were not counted in this census! We will update the census multiple times a year, so you have not missed out!

Censimento mondiale STXBP1 - Trimestre 2023!
Ti sei mai chiesto quante persone nel mondo soffrono della mutazione STXBP1?
Sappiamo che ci sono migliaia di pazienti là fuori... e vogliamo trovarli!
STXBP1 Global Connect è una rete globale di genitori composta da svariati gruppi e associazioni in tutto il mondo, dedicati a migliorare la vita dei pazienti STXBP1.
Un primo e molto importante progetto di collaborazione per il 2023 è l’attivazione di un censimento!
Perché stiamo facendo un censimento?
Sapere dove si trovano i pazienti e le famiglie nel mondo aiuta la nostra Fondazione e le relative associazioni nazionali a sostenere i nostri pazienti e le loro famiglie e a pianificare le cure e gli studi clinici. È importante sottolineare che mentre ci muoviamo verso gli studi clinici per STXBP1 - che potenzialmente porteranno a farmaci e, si spera, a una cura - dobbiamo sapere con quanta più precisione possibile quanti pazienti STXBP1 siano già stati diagnosticati e dove si trovino; così possiamo aiutarli oggi e collegarli con le terapie del domani. Inoltre, è fondamentale rassicurare i nostri attuali e futuri partner industriali che abbiamo un numero di pazienti tale da giustificare il loro investimento nella ricerca scientifica.

I dati sull'età sono abbastanza coerenti tra i paesi da cui ne disponiamo. I due gruppi più grandi sono la fascia dai 6 ai 12 anni (36%) e quella dai 0 ai 5 anni (34%). Ed è anche degno di nota il fatto che abbiamo 99 STX adulti (dai 18 anni in su)*
La ripartizione di genere è equamente distribuita tra 49% di donne e 51% di uomini*
*Dati su età e sesso disponibili per il 76% degli individui

Censo Mundial STXBP1 - ¡1T 2023!
¿Alguna vez te has preguntado cuántas personas en el mundo tienen un diagnóstico de STXBP1?
Sabemos que hay miles de pacientes… ¡y queremos encontrarlos!
STXBP1 Global Connect es una red global de padres compuesta por muchos grupos de todo el mundo, centrada en mejorar la vida de los pacientes con STXBP1.
Una de nuestras primeras colaboraciones es un proyecto muy importante para 2023: ¡lanzar un censo!
¿Por qué un censo?
Saber dónde están los pacientes y las familias en todo el mundo ayuda a nuestras fundaciones y colaboradores a apoyar a nuestros pacientes y familias, y a planificar la atención clínica y los estudios. Es importante destacar que, a medida que avanzamos hacia los ensayos clínicos para STXBP1, que potencialmente conducirán a tratamientos y, con suerte, a una cura, necesitamos saber cuántos pacientes con STXBP1 han sido diagnosticados y dónde se encuentran; para que podamos ayudarlos hoy y conectarlos con las terapias del mañana. Además, es crucial dar confianza a nuestros socios industriales actuales y futuros de que tenemos suficientes pacientes para justificar su inversión en investigación.

Los datos de edad son bastante consistentes en todos los países donde tenemos estos datos. Los dos grupos más grandes son de 6 a 12 años (36%) y de 0 a 5 años (34%). Además, cabe destacar que tenemos 99 STXBP1’s adultos (mayores de 18 años)*.
Los datos de género se dividen uniformemente en 49% mujeres, 51% hombres*.

Wir wissen, dass es da draußen Tausende von Patienten gibt ... und wir wollen sie finden!

WARUM EINE ZÄHLUNG?
Wenn wir wissen, wo sich Patienten und Familien weltweit aufhalten, können unsere Stiftungen und Mitarbeiter unsere Patienten und Familien unterstützen und die klinische Versorgung und Studien planen. Auf dem Weg zu klinischen Studien für STXBP1 - die möglicherweise zu Behandlungen und hoffentlich zu einer Heilung führen werden - müssen wir wissen, wie viele STXBP1-Patienten diagnostiziert wurden und wo sie sich befinden, damit wir ihnen heute helfen und sie mit den Therapien von morgen in Kontakt bringen können. Außerdem ist es wichtig, unseren derzeitigen und künftigen Partnern aus der Industrie die Gewissheit zu geben, dass wir genügend Patienten haben, um ihre Forschungsinvestitionen zu rechtfertigen.

Die Altersdaten sind in den Ländern, für die wir sie haben, ziemlich einheitlich. Die beiden größten Gruppen sind 6 bis 12 Jahre alt (36 %) und 0 bis 5 Jahre alt (34 %). Bemerkenswert ist auch, dass wir 99 erwachsene STX'er (18 und älter)* haben.
Die Geschlechtsdaten sind gleichmäßig aufgeteilt: 49% Frauen, 51% Männer*.
*Alters- und Geschlechtsangaben liegen für 76 % der Personen vor

STXBP1 Global Connect is een wereldwijd oudernetwerk dat bestaat uit vele groepen uit de hele wereld, gericht op het verbeteren van het leven van STXBP1-patiënten.
Een van onze eerste samenwerkingen is een enorm belangrijk project voor 2023: de lancering van een volkstelling!
WAAROM EEN VOLKSTELLING?
Weten waar patiënten en families zich wereldwijd bevinden, helpt onze stichtingen en medewerkers om onze patiënten en families te ondersteunen en klinische zorg en studies te plannen. Het is belangrijk dat we weten hoeveel STXBP1-patiënten gediagnosticeerd zijn en waar ze zich bevinden, zodat we hen vandaag kunnen helpen en in contact kunnen brengen met de therapieën van morgen. Daarnaast is het cruciaal om onze huidige en toekomstige industriële partners het vertrouwen te geven dat we genoeg patiënten hebben om hun onderzoeksinvesteringen te rechtvaardigen.
